El grupo está formado por físicos e ingenieros que trabajan en el ámbito clínico (radiofísicos hospitalarios) y universitario (profesores titulares y catedráticos de universidad), y que tienen como principal objetivo la aplicación clínica de los resultados obtenidos en su labor investigadora; particularmente en el área de la oncología. Así, las principales líneas de investigación del grupo son la dosimetría en radioterapia, el desarrollo y aplicación de equipos de medida de la radiación (en radioterapia, medicina nuclear y radiodiagnóstico) y la simulación computacional, mediante métodos Monte Carlo, aplicada a problemas clínicos relevantes, como el cribado del cáncer de mama y la radioterapia fraccionada, y a problemas básicos en el ámbito de la radiobiología.
